The objective of the RUSERA-EXE project is to establish EU-RU long lasting “researcher-to-researcher” partnership and promote EU-Russia co-operation. Experience of previous EC projects aimed to foster collaboration between EU and Russia under EC Framework Programmes has shown that the main obstacles to initiate joint R&D activities of EU and Russian researchers are:
  • insufficient knowledge of Russian researchers on participation in EC programmes;
  • low awareness of European researchers about research in Russia;
  • cultural diversity - social, business, mentatility, etc. differences and absence of methodology to overcome these cooperation obstacles.
The RUSERA-EXE project is intended to analyse the experience obtained and develop on this basis a special methodology.

The methodology will be designed on the basis of EU and RU project partners’ experience they had obtained in the previous EU-RU joint SSA Projects such as ENRIN (Esprit Project No. 29591), RUSERA (INCO-CT-2004-502262), SITE (IST-FP6-004123), CREATION (INCO-FP6-502259), etc. The methodology is a document (handbook) meant to help EU and RU researchers and research managers to avoid misunderstandings or problems in international teams, better communicate with individuals or groups whose first language, or language of choice, is not the same one as our own in order, to overcome cultural (social, business, mentality, etc.) differences and international cooperation obstacles based on practical experiences of the above projects. It is well-known that a basic understanding of cultural diversity is the key to effective cross-cultural communication. Even when you agree to use the same language in international teams, there are cultural differences that have to be considered in order to optimize communication between the parties.

RUSERA-EXE methodology for long lasting EU-RU RTD partnership will be developed by FFG (with AEER assistance) and suggested to EU and RU researchers and research managers.

The RUSERA-EXE project provides assistance to both EU and Russian partners at all stages of establishing and keeping of “researcher-to-researcher” partnership.
